A couple quick roster notes to get us started:
- SS Kyle Holder has been activated off the Double-A Trenton disabled list and sent down to Low-A Charleston, the team announced. I have to think the Charleston assignment is temporary. Holder suffered a fractured vertebrae in Spring Training and has been out since. Sounds scary, but if he’s already back playing, it couldn’t have been that bad.
- The Yankees have released both 1B Dalton Blaser and RHP Luis Cedeno, the team announced. Blaser was the team’s eighth round pick in 2016. Cedeno’s been a lower level organizational arm for a few years now.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (10-3 loss to Syracuse)
- CF Tyler Wade: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB, 1 K — here’s video of the triple
- LF Clint Frazier: 0-4, 1 K
- 3B Brandon Drury: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
- DH Mike Ford: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K — here’s video of the homer
- C Kyle Higashioka: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 BB — second triple of his career!
- RF Billy McKinney: 0-4, 1 K
- RHP David Hale: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 7/4 GB/FB — 48 of 70 pitches were strikes (69%) … I wonder if the Yankees will call him up to make a spot start at some point during this 14 games in 13 days stretch … at least for the doubleheader in Detroit, right?
- LHP Nestor Cortes: 2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 31 of 53 pitches were strikes (59%) … 23 runs in 28.2 innings since coming back as a Rule 5 Draft pick … he allowed 25 runs in 106 innings in 2016 and 29 runs in 104.2 innings in 2017
- RHP Brady Lail: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 3/0 GB/FB — 11 of 24 pitches were strikes (46%)

- CF Jeff Hendrix: 1-3, 2 R, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
- RF Zack Zehner: 3-6, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 5 RBI, 2 K — helluva night
- SS Abi Avelino: 2-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 K — 10-for-33 (.303) in his last eight games
- LF Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
- 1B Gosuke Katoh: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 HBP
- DH Jhalan Jackson: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB
- RHP Dillon Tate: 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 1 HR, 8/2 GB/FB — 69 of 103 pitches were strikes (67%) … first time he’s struck out more than six batters in a start this season
- LHP Trevor Lane: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 2/0 GB/FB — 25 of 40 pitches were strikes (63%) … the good news: 35/6 K/BB in 24 innings … the bad news: he’s allowed multiple runs in all four appearances with Trenton
High-A Tampa Tarpons (8-5 win over Florida)
- SS Diego Castillo: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — 18-for-55 (.327) in his last 16 games
- RF Alex Palma: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K — got picked off first
- DH Dom Thompson-Williams: 2-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K — that’s now eight homers in his last nine games after hitting six homers in his first 126 career games … what in the world is going on here?
- LF Isiah Gilliam: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
- 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
- RHP Garrett Whitlock: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 27 of 41 pitches were strikes (66%) … left the game two batters after getting hit by a comebacker, which probably explains the short start
Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (8-7 win over Charleston)
- 2B Wilkerman Garcia: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB — really filled up the box score tonight
- SS Kyle Holder: 1-5, 1 BB — season debut after the whole fractured vertebrae thing
- DH Steven Sensley: 3-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
- 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K
- CF Leonardo Molina: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 RBI — six of his last eleven hits have gone for extra bases
- RF Pablo Olivares: 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB — struggled a bit with Tampa, but in 27 games with Charleston, he’s hitting .360/.436/.438
- RHP Jio Orozco: 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 5/2 GB/FB — 46 of 78 pitches were strikes (59%)
