Some notes to get us started:
- SS Gleyber Torres is having his Tommy John surgery tomorrow, according to Bryan Hoch. Mets team doctor Dr. David Atlchek will perform the surgery. See you in the spring, Gleyber.
- 3B Nelson Gomez is listed as suspended on the Staten Island Yankees roster for some reason. Not sure what happened there. He didn’t fail a drug test or anything like that. Those are announced by MLB. Must have violated team rules.
- RHP Travis Hissong has been released, the Tampa Yankees announced. Hissong had been with the Yankees since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He threw some innings as an extra arm in Spring Training this year.
Triple-A Scranton Game One (4-3 loss to Syracuse in seven innings)
- 2B Tyler Wade & C Kyle Higashioka: both 0-3 — Higashioka struck out twice
- CF Dustin Fowler: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — 12 homers in 64 games this year after hitting 12 in 132 games last year … getting out of Trenton is a part of it, no doubt, but not all of it
- 1B Tyler Austin: 0-2, 1 BB
- LF Jake Cave: 1-2, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — three homers in his last eight games
- RHP Bryan Mitchell: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 7/0 GB/FB — 43 of 67 pitches were strikes (64%) … he’s thrown 56, 60, and 67 pitches in his last three starts, which is weird … they’re not really stretching him out much
- LHP Tyler Webb: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 22 of 34 pitches were strikes (65%)
Triple-A Scranton Game Two (6-2 win over Syracuse in seven innings) makeup of their May 7th rainout
- 2B Tyler Wade: 1-3, 1 R, 2 K
- 3B Miguel Andujar: 2-3, 2 R, 1 2B — 3-for-7 in his two Triple-A games
- DH Tyler Austin: 1-2, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB — second homer in 29 minor league games this year, which surprised me … I thought he had more … 12 doubles in those 29 games though
- LF Clint Frazier: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
- CF Jake Cave: 1-3, 1 3B, 2 K
- LHP Joe Mantiply: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 29 of 46 pitches were strikes (63%)
Double-A Trenton (14-4 loss to Altoona)
- SS Thairo Estrada: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
- CF Rashad Crawford: 1-4, 1 BB

- RHP Yefry Ramirez: 2.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 2/2 GB/FB — 37 of 64 pitches were strikes (58%) … allowed six runs total in his previous six games and 30.1 innings
- RHP Will Carter: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 4/2 GB/FB — 25 of 44 pitches were strikes (57%) … season debut after dealing with bone spurs in his elbow
- RHP Nick Rumbelow: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 16 of 25 pitches were strikes (64%) … 14/1 K/BB in 8.1 innings
High-A Tampa (6-0 win over Florida) a win or a Clearwater loss tomorrow clinches the first half division title and a postseason berth
- SS Jorge Mateo: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
- DH Tito Polo: 2-4 — got picked off first
- LF Trey Amburgey: 1-4
- 2B Nick Solak: 3-4, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 SB — 10-for-22 (.455) in his last six games

- RHP Dillon Tate: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 6/3 GB/FB — 46 of 67 pitches were strikes (69%) … excellent season debut after dealing with a shoulder issue … I know he only threw 67 pitches, but going this deep into the game fresh off the disabled list means they had him starting in Extended Spring Training for a while
- LHP James Reeves: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 23 of 31 pitches were strikes (74%)
- LHP Stephen Tarpley: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — nine pitches, five strikes
Low-A Charleston is off until Thursday for the All-Star break. The All-Star Game itself was rained out tonight. Lame. OF Estevan Florial, RHP Brian Keller, SS Hoy Jun Park, OF Blake Rutherford, and C Donny Sands were all selected to the game.
Short Season Staten Island (7-4 win over Brooklyn) they were rained out yesterday, so this is technically Opening Day … here’s the full lineup as per DotF tradition
- SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — had a tough year in Pulaski last season … hopefully he rakes here and carries it over to Charleston next season
- CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-4, 2 , 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB
- 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-5, 2 RBI, 2 K — down here after hitting .208/.267/.280 (60 wRC+) in 49 games with Charleston
- RF Timmy Robinson: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
- LF Leonardo Molina: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K , 1 E (fielding)

- 3B Daniel Barrios: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB
- RHP Jorge Guzman: 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HB, 9/0 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) — 41 of 69 pitches were strikes (60%) … he’s the other guy the Yankees got from the Astros in the Brian McCann trade
- RHP Branden Pinder: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 3 HB, 2/1 GB/FB — apparently the box score is wrong and Pinder only threw 1.1 innings before being replaced by another reliever
- RHP Luis Cedeno: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — seven of eleven pitches were strikes
Rookie Pulaski begins play Thursday. Here’s the roster. The notables: OF Brayan Emery, 3B Dermis Garcia, RHP Rony Garcia, OF Pablo Olivares, RHP Jio Orozco, C Saul Torres, and RHP Gilmael Troya. Orozco is being sent down from Charleston. Torres was part of the 2016-17 international signing class and could be the next great Yankees catching prospect.
The two Rookie GCL Yanks affiliates begin their seasons Monday. No rosters yet. They’re usually announced last minute, as in the morning of the first game.
