River Ave. Blues is now cell phone-compatible. If you’re on the road and miss us too much, just point your cell phone browser to RiverAveBlues.com, and you’ll land on our mobile-enabled home page. You can even leave comments too. Nifty.
Site loading issues
Are any of you readers having intermittent issues with loading River Ave. Blues? We’ve seen some strange Google search hits for the site and just wanted to make sure everything seems okay. So just leave a comment here if you can or e-mail me at Ben at riveraveblues dot com, replacing the necessary words with punctuation, if something seems out-of-whack around here.
A quick note on post formatting
With the RAB redesign, a few people have noted that some posts on the site’s main page are formatted differently. We had this feature on the old design but the differences weren’t as obvious. So briefly: These smaller. offset posts with smaller headlines, less meta information (date, category) and a different styling for the byline and comments are Asides. These are smaller posts for when we have a link to show you or a small point to make that doesn’t warrant its own post. Same great content as before, but now they look a little more distinctive than our other posts.
Welcome to RAB 2.0
So by now, many of you have noticed the new look. It’s not ground-breaking, but we’re trying out something new here.
This new theme allows us to have a little more control over the way things are displayed and a bit more control over the customizable aspects of WordPress. We’ve implemented a version of threaded comments that we think is a little bit better than the one we were trying out earlier.
We’ve still got the same great features. The Joba Watch remains where it has sat for much of the season. (How do you like that 100 mph pitch tonight?) We’ve got the asides formatting slightly differently than they did before.
We’ll probably be tweaking things over the next few days and weeks, and we’re certainly willing to listen to any suggestions you guys may have.
So welcome to the new version of River Ave. Blues. Same great content, new look.
Introducing threaded comments
We’ve rolled out a new feature here at River Ave. Blues that will make it much easier to follow comment threads. Beginning now, we’ve got threaded comments. That means you can now reply to other people’s comments.
Here’s how it works:
1. Someone writes a post about a topic.
2. Someone else writes a comment about something mentioned in that post. At this point, you have two choices. You can write a different comment about the post or you can reply to the comment already on the site. If you want to reply to a comment, just hit reply. Your new comment will be nested. If you don’t want to reply to the comment, just leave a comment as you always would.
So there you go. Have fun with it. It’ll make for better conversations in the post, and we’re thinking of rolling out game threads too.
Update: We know of a few problems with the threaded comments, and we’re still trying to iron out the kinks. But for now, we’re keeping them up. Enjoy them.
Sorry for the technical issues
This is getting annoying. We are in the process of moving to a new host because our old one…well…sucked. Everything should be a-okay in the not to distant future.
How ’bout the Mets and Sawx taking a reliever with their first pick? Wow.
Back after technical difficulty
Sorry.
Update by Joe: On one of the fucking two days of the year where a live blog is necessary. Opening Day is the other, and we crashed that day, too!
